In 1981 at the Avon Championships of Detroit, Leslie Allen became the first Black female tennis player since Althea Gibson (1958) to win a regular WTA Tour event. ITHF Museum Collection Althea Gibson gives pointers to Leslie Allen, along with Andrea Buchanan, Zina Garrison and Kim Sands in 1979.
