And uncountable nouns are those you can't count, e.g. substances, qualities (water, heat, self-confidence, patience). All the English grammar guides I have seen claim that no indefinite article ("a/an") can be used with uncountable nouns ever.

  8. 4 juin 2006 · It seems to me, though I may be wrong, that the French "prendre son mal en patience" conveys the idea of taking something bad with a degree of grace, in the French "patience", in the English, the grin. Equally however, "to bear with it" definately conveys the idea that it will be at least tolerable until the situation changes.

  10. 2 sept. 2009 · On peut écrire, avec le même sens, Patience et longueur de temps font plus que force et que rage, mais je vois l'emploi du ni comme une forme comparable au ne explétif, signe d'une langue plus soignée.
