Charles Van Dell Johnson (August 25, 1916 – December 12, 2008) was an American actor and dancer. He had a prolific career in film, television, theatre and radio, which spanned over 50 years, between 1940 and 1992.
Van Johnson was a popular MGM musical and war star in the 1940s and 1950s. He appeared in films such as A Guy Named Joe, Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, The Caine Mutiny and The End of the Affair.
Van Johnson is a Navy pilot in WWII who has been shot down in the Pacific on a bombing mission. He and a wounded comrade are the only survivors and are lost at sea. As they await rescue, Van Johnson recounts his life story and romance with girlfriend June Allyson.
