Born in Chicago, he became one of the first popular music stars of the 1960s to earn his reputation almost entirely on his instrumental prowess, as he rarely sang before 1969. [1]

Michael Bloomfield pioneered the new sound of blues-rock in recordings with the Butterfield Blues Band, with his own horn band, the Electric Flag, and with Al Kooper's "Super Session" dates. But he also participated in numerous other sessions.
