Cecil Frank Powell (5 décembre 1903 à Tonbridge, Angleterre – 9 août 1969 à Milan, Italie) est un physicien britannique. Il est lauréat du prix Nobel de physique de 1950 « pour ses travaux sur les méthodes photographiques servant à l'étude des processus nucléaires, ainsi que pour sa découverte du pion [ 1 ] » .
Powell was Director of a European expedition for making high-altitude balloon flights in Sardinia (1952) and in the Po Valley (1954, 1955, and 1957). His first researches at the Cavendish Laboratory concerned condensation phenomena and it led indirectly to an explanation of the anomalously high rate of discharge of steam through nozzles.

Cecil Frank Powell est né le 5 décembre 1903 à Tonbridge (Kent, Grande-Bretagne), dans une famille d'armuriers. Il fit des études à l'université de Cambridge, où il soutint sa thèse en 1927, dans le laboratoire Cavendish, sous la direction de Charles Wilson et d' Ernest Rutherford .
