In the 1800s, long before rock, pop, rap, and even jazz were born, Nashville became known as a city where soul-filled music artists could meet and collaborate and share their love of music. The first musicians to put Nashville on the global map were the Fisk Jubilee Singers, who were reported to have even warmed the heart of Queen Victoria in the 1870s.
The Building of Music City. Nashville’s earliest settlers celebrated in the late 1700s with fiddle tunes and buck dancing after safely disembarking on the shores of the Cumberland River. Nashville’s first “celebrity,” the noted frontiersman and Congressman Davy Crockett was known far and wide for his colorful stories and fiddle playing.
