6 nov. 2023 · Screening on the last day of this year’s Brisbane International Film Festival, Director Mark Leonard Winter’s ‘The Rooster’ is a meditative tale about masculinity and loss. Not without its moments of humour, it is certainly a bleak tale in bleak surroundings.
The Rooster aims to be a festival favourite, akin to films such as Nitram and Pig, and then reach a wider audience through cinema and streaming platforms like mystery-drama smash The Dry. It will garner both international and domestic interest with its unique tone and a vision of an Australian way of life rarely seen on film.

The chemistry between John Wayne and Katherine Hepburn is palpable. The strong on-screen rapport between the two actors enhances the dynamic of their characters’ relationship.
