His profane pugilism, much like Dan’s rooster, kicks the film into a stark form of odd couple territory fused with a dash of Trainspotting and the off-kilter camaraderie of Bad Boy Bubby. MIFF 2023 - Film #4. I understand where this is coming from but it just doesn't convey the message as much as it clearly wants to, and I mean that in the sense that it consistently just seems at odds with itself in this way. This was my one and only Australian film for MIFF and I kinda wish I watched Shayda instead - but Hugo Weaving's a blast!
The next day, Steve's body is found in the bush, buried in a shallow grave. Unfit to work and haunted by guilt, Dan spirals. When his pet rooster is killed by a fox, Dan lets go of the fragile tether he has on his sanity and retreats to camp out in the forest where Steve was found.
