Her mother is also famously known as the wife of the late English musician John Lennon, a co-lead vocalist of the English rock band, The Beatles.
Cox and Kyoko contacted Yoko Ono after the death of Lennon in 1980, without revealing their location. Subsequently, Ono agreed not to actively attempt to locate her daughter, although she still desired to make contact.

In 1971, while studying with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Majorca, Spain, Ono's ex-husband Anthony Cox accused Ono of abducting their daughter Kyoko from the kindergarten. They reached an out of court agreement and the charges were dismissed.
