18 déc. 2023 · Mario Lanza’s children, Colleen, Damon, Elisa, and Marc, were all still minors when their father died. They were taken in by their mother, Ella, who had been granted custody of them in the divorce. Ella was a single mother and struggled to make ends meet.

The Lanza family left for Italy on May 17, 1957 after which he performed for the Queen of England, in several sell-out recitals, and made his final two films, The Seven Hills of Rome in 1957 and For The First Time in 1959.
Called "Freddie" by his parents and childhood friends, the tenor was known professionally as Mario Lanza from 1942 onwards, and on October 7, 1948—exactly eleven years before his death—he legally adopted that name.
