Lord Melbourne a été le premier ministre britannique du 16 juillet au 14 novembre 1834, et du 18 avril 1835 au 30 août 1841. Il fut l’ami intime et le principal conseiller politique de la reine Victoria pendant les premières années de son règne (à partir du 20 juin 1837).
