In her exhibition Phylogeny, the Sri Lankan-born, Toronto-based contemporary artist Rajni Perera highlights the endurance of humans, flora, and fauna despite ongoing colonial, imperial, and capitalist desires—desires that include pursuing and aggregating resources, territory, and geopolitical influence.
5 janv. 2023 · The most visually striking piece, titled A Starry-eyed Subspecies, is positioned at the exhibit’s entrance, and serves as an introduction to the body of work on display. Perera boldly opens with a full-size taxidermied horse mounted by a cloaked “traveler” in front of a painted backdrop.
