Eyvind Johnson est un écrivain suédois. Il commence à travailler à 14 ans, et s'essaie à divers petits métiers. Au lendemain de la guerre, il connaît le chômage et la misère qui le convainquent de s'engager dans le syndicalisme et le militantisme socialiste.
Résumé : C'est en grande partie sa propre histoire que nous raconte Eyvind Johnson dans Le roman d'Olof, un classique de la littérature suédoise contemporaine. Né avec le siècle, il dut se séparer très tôt - douze ans à peine ! - de sa famille pour gagner sa vie et conquérir sa liberté.
