Itzcoatl (Classical Nahuatl: Itzcōhuātl [it͡sˈkoːwaːt͡ɬ], "Obsidian Serpent", modern Nahuatl pronunciation ⓘ) (1380–1440) was the fourth king of Tenochtitlan, and the founder of the Aztec Empire, ruling from 1427 to 1440.

Itzcoatl (c. 1380–1440) was the fourth Mexica tlatoani who rebelled against the Tepanecs and formed the Triple Alliance with the Acolhua and Tlacopan. He expanded the Aztec Empire and destroyed its historical records.
