The news of Jaafar passing was confirmed by his stepson Mohamad Hanif Hashim, who said that Jaafar breathed his last at 11.30am this morning at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah Serdang, reported Berita Harian.

Dato' Sir Onn bin Dato' Jaafar was a Malayan politician who served as the 7th Menteri Besar of Johor from 1947 to 1950. His organised opposition towards the creation of the Malayan Union led him to form the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) in 1946; he was UMNO's founder and its first president until his resignation in 1951.
KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran comedian, actor, singer, celebrity chef and television host Jaafar Onn died at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah in Serdang, Selangor at 11.30am today. He was 73. The actor's death was announced by his adopted son Mohamad Hanif Hashim.
