  1. Internationally renowned Acadian painter and printmaker Joseph Purcell was born in 1954, and raised in the village of Chezzetcook, on the rugged eastern shore of Nova Scotia. He traces his ancestry back to the founding of the village following the Great Acadian Expulsion of 1755.

In 1970 they opened the The Purcell Family Art Gallery and show oils, watercolours, and giclées by, Joseph and Tela Purcell, daughter Julia, & grandchildren.
