Joseph Algerine Odom (March 22, 1948 – November 2, 1991) was an American attorney who later became a musician. He came to prominence after his appearance as one of the main characters in John Berendt 's 1994 true-crime book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil .

The simple truth is that most of the main characters in Midnight were LGBT: Jim Williams; his lover Danny Hansford (who was certainly bisexual); Joe Odom; and The Lady Chablis.
Another colorful character in the book is Joe Odom (played in the movie by Paul Hipp), who makes himself at home as an unpaid (and unauthorized) "house-sitter'' in historic mansions, supporting himself as the host of the longest-running house party in Georgia.
