The film begins with the disappearance then flashes back through Aimee's life. Her conversion to Christ as a teenage farm girl, her three marriages, her pioneering Angelus Temple, a church of Hollywood proportions near Sunset Boulevard.
This led to Richard's writing, directing, and acting in his films on Sister Aimee ('Saving Sister Aimee' in 2001 and 'Sister Aimee: The Aimee Semple McPherson Story' in 2008) that he made as an allegory for his former life and experience as an evangelist in Pittsburgh.
Richard Rossi wrote, directed and also acted in the film. Rossi shot the film with a $300 consumer camcorder. The movie has a jittery, sepia -toned 1920s motif, employing silent film cards and a period look with a contemporary documentary style.
