David Wolffsohn (Yiddish: דוד וואלפסאן; Hebrew: דוד וולפסון; 9 October 1855 in Darbėnai, Kovno Governorate – 15 September 1914) was a Lithuanian-Jewish businessman, prominent early Zionist and second president of the Zionist Organization (ZO).

14 mars 2018 · The Man Who Created the Flag of Israel. David Wolffsohn (1856-1914) was born to a poor, religious Jewish family in the Lithuanian-Polish town of Darbenai (then part of Russia). His father was a Torah scholar and teacher, and Wolffsohn, too, was learning in yeshiva with the same goal in mind.
David Wolffsohn was born in Darbenai, Lithuania in 1856 where he received a traditional Jewish education. He moved in 1872 to Memel and then again to Lyck in East Prussia, finally making his home in Cologne in 1888. It was here that he became a successful businessman.
