15 févr. 2024 · Arthur Salvatore Cafarelli, 78, of Dublin, passed away peacefully at his home on February 15, 2024. He was born in Syracuse, NY to the late Robert A. and Elma Jean (Williams) Cafarelli. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Huniford.
Caffarelli was a professor at the University of Chicago between 1983 and 1986, after which he moved for a decade to the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton. During this period a major focus of his work was the Monge-Ampère equation, another well-known nonlinear PDE.
