It is an adaptation of the American format American Gladiators. The success of the British series spawned further adaptations in Australia and Sweden.
The fourth series of Gladiators aired in the UK from 16 September to 23 December 1995. The prizes in this series were the £14,000 prize money once again, but the grand champions also received a holiday on Paradise Island in The Bahamas as well as a four-wheel drive off-the-road family vehicle for each of them.
