Walter Booker, a bass player who provided the rhythmic foundation for Cannonball Adderley, Sarah Vaughan and many other prominent jazz musicians, died Nov. 24 of cardiac arrest at his home in New York.
In 1959 he began on bass while in the US Army, serving side-by-side in the same unit with Elvis Presley. He worked with Andrew White in Washington after his discharge, playing in the JFK Quintet during the early 1960s.

Jazz bassist Walter Booker died at his Manhattan, New York home on Friday. He was 72. The double bass legend performed with a number of jazz greats and mentored young musicians at his Boogie Woogie Studio in New York City.
