Il y a 1 jour · This extensive and celebratory collection pulls together all of Manzanera’s 10 solo albums in one place, featuring collaborators such as Brian Eno, David Gilmour, Neil and Tim Finn, Andy Mackay, Robert Wyatt, Eddie Jobson, and John Wetton , making 50 Years of Music play like his own personal musical version of modern popular music.
Southern Cross (1990) explores Phil’s Cuban roots, while 1999’s Vozero offers similar for his South American journeys. 2004’s 6PM marries grooves, ambience, and pop in a pleasing millennial stew; While the Roxy Music reunion of the early 00s reintroduced Andy Mackay and Paul Thompson into Manzanera’s work, old friends Robert Wyatt and Brian Eno joined too for 2005’s 50 Minutes Later.
The first recording was Robert Wyatt's album Shleep (1996-1997) and the client list included Brian Eno, David Gilmour, Annie Lennox, Kevin Ayers, and Chrissie Hynde. Wyatt's critically acclaimed album Comicopera was recorded at Gallery in 2007.
This double cd does a more than adequate job of summarizing the legendary guitarist's career. But there's no way anyone will find this compilation satisfyingly consistent. The disc opens with a few live songs from a then-recent concert.
