  3. The objective of every SIU investigation is to determine whether there is evidence of criminal wrongdoing on the part of the official. It is not to determine whether the involved official(s) may have committed some lesser offence, such as a breach of a provincial law or professional misconduct.

  4. Contact Us. What We Can Investigate. The SIU’s investigative jurisdiction is limited to concerns involving officials where there is a serious injury, death, allegation of sexual assault or discharge of a firearm by an official at a person.

  5. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU, or "the Unit"; French: Unité des enquêtes spéciales, UES) is the civilian police oversight agency of the province of Ontario, Canada. The SIU is responsible for investigating circumstances involving police that have resulted in a death or serious injury, or if a firearm was discharged at a person.

  6. The SIU is a government agency that investigates and prosecutes corruption, serious malpractices and maladministration in the public sector. It publishes judgments, proclamations, investigation reports and media statements on its website.
