He won the lawsuit, and was able to release Black Pearl in 1982. This release also featured more mainstream music rather than the hard-driving rock Travers had recorded earlier, and included the hit single "I La La La Love You", featured prominently on mainstream Top 40 and album oriented rock stations, and in the 1983 film Valley Girl .

Pat Travers' Black Pearl is a lost gem. The early '80s recording from the talented Canadian guitarist contains a stunning mix of hard rock, blues, warm jazz influenced runs, reggae and melodic tracks, from the under-rated guitarist and his tight backing band.
Released for the first time on CD, this 1982 album by Pat Travers finds the Canadian rock singer/guitarist in fine form. “I La La La Love You” curiously combines a bluesy vibe and of-the-era synthesizer lines, while “I’d Rather See You Dead” is a dramatic power ballad.
