Kooper joined the Blues Project as their keyboardist in 1965. He left the band shortly before their gig at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, although he did play a solo set, as evidenced by The Criterion Collection Blu-ray extended edition of the event.
This is a list of the performers at the Monterey Pop Festival, held June 16 to June 18, 1967 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, California. There were five separate shows during the three-day festival (one on Friday night, two on Saturday and two on Sunday), with each performance approximately four hours in duration.
