16 janv. 2024 · For me, Ronnie’s rock immortality comes from being the guitarist on Edgar Winter’s 1972 album They Only Come Out At Night — namely the key tracks Free Ride and Frankenstein. On Gandharva, Montrose contributes co-lead guitar with Bloomfield to Saga Of The Blue Beaver, the aforementioned blues jam.
22 nov. 2023 · Gandharva by legendary Moog pioneers Beaver and Krause has been a favourite of mine since I was a teenager. It is only recently that I discovered that this album was a milestone in commercial quadraphonic recording.
They recorded three albums for the company: In a Wild Sanctuary (1970), Gandharva (1971) and All Good Men (1972). Writing for Saturday Review magazine in 1970, Ellen Sandler described In a Wild Sanctuary as "a powerful ecological statement in movement and sound".
After 1969's Ragnarok Electric Funk, the duo issued In a Wild Sanctuary a year later; 1971's Gandharva -- recorded live in San Francisco's Grace Cathedral and featuring cameos from Mulligan and Bloomfield as well as Bud Shank and Ronnie Montrose -- was the most popular of their releases.
The journey from noise to quiet would start with the blues-rock of "Saga of the Blue Beaver" at the beginning of side one, with Mike Bloomfield and Ronnie Montrose sharing the lead guitar duties, though it wasn't any old blues-rock, as Beaver and Krause both played Moog synthesizer on the track.
