Senator Thelma Chalifoux, our school’s namesake, was known for being a strong and independent woman, unwilling to back down from fighting for the issues she cared about. She valued hard work and dedication, which led to her appointment to the Senate of Canada.
Chalifoux was a social justice activist, politician, and an active figure in the Métis community. As an employee of the government agency Company of Young Canadians, she worked to advance community development initiatives in northern communities and advocated for improved housing conditions.
