Jacques Singer (1910 -1980) was a Polish born American conductor. Jacques was trained in the violin from an early age, and began to give concerts in Poland at age seven. In 1921 his family moved to the U.S, settling in Jersey City. He began attending the Juilliard School in 1927 graduating in 1930.
7 févr. 2006 · A series of guest conductors led the orchestra from 1940 until Jacques Singer was appointed music director in 1947. During the 1940s the VSO began broadcasting its concerts on the radio, and soon the CBC was carrying its sounds to a large national audience. Singer was succeeded in 1952 by Irwin Hoffman, a protégé of Serge Koussevitzky.
