5 déc. 2013 · Nelson Mandela, the anti-apartheid icon who became the first president of a democratic South Africa, passed away Thursday at his home in Johannesburg after a prolonged lung infection. He was 95.
Nelson Mandela, un membre actif du Congrès national africain (CNA) qui conteste la politique ségrégationniste de l'Afrique du Sud (apartheid), est arrêté le 5 août 1962. Il sera relâché, puis emprisonné de nouveau en 1963, avant d'être condamné à la détention à perpétuité en 1965 en raison de ses activités politiques clandestines.

Héros de la lutte anti-apartheid, Nelson Mandela est emprisonné le 12 juin 1964. Après 27 ans d'emprisonnement, il retrouve la liberté le 11 février 1990. Quatre ans plus tard, il devient le premier président noir de l'Afrique du Sud. Nelson Mandela demeure l'un des grands hommes du XXème siècle. Hommage.
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (18. heinäkuuta 1918 Mvezo – 5. joulukuuta 2013 Johannesburg) oli xhosa-kansan thembu-heimoon kuuluva eteläafrikkalainen poliitikko, joka toimi myös asianajajana. Etelä-Afrikassa hänet tunnettiin usein xhosankielisellä klaaninimellä Madiba tai nimellä tata , joka tarkoittaa xhosaksi "isää".
