Juste après le début des années 1970, Tom Fogerty quitte le groupe, invoquant des problèmes avec les autres membres [2]. Le groupe joue en trio pendant un an puis se dissout en 1972. Immédiatement après la dissolution du groupe, John Fogerty présente un album solo intitulé The Blue Ridge Rangers , album de bluegrass dans lequel John joue de tous les instruments lui-même [ 2 ] .
