Malcolm Young kam als siebtes Kind der Familie zur Welt. 1963 wanderte die Familie aus beruflichen Gründen von Schottland nach Australien aus. Während seiner Schulzeit begann Young Gitarre zu spielen und wechselte schnell von der akustischen zur elektrischen Gitarre.
