Daniel was a planter with vast land holdings and was the first bank president of Washington. His grandfather Daniel Carroll of Duddington I, received Duddington Manor within a large tract of land upon his marriage to Anne Elizabeth Rozier, which Daniel's father Charles Carroll then inherited and he in turn willed it to Daniel when he died in 1773.

CARROLL, DANIEL (1730–1796) Daniel Carroll, a wealthy, European-educated Roman Catholic from Maryland, was a signer of both the articles of confederation and the Constitution. Carroll, who favored a strong national government, spoke often and served on three committees. He was subsequently elected to the first house of representatives.
