26 févr. 2024 · Le nom a été utilisé pour la première fois au milieu des années 1940, lorsqu'Art dirigeait un big band à New York connu sous le nom de Seventeen Messengers, mais son histoire actuelle a commencé en 1955, lorsqu'il a utilisé le nom de "Jazz Messengers" pour le quintet qui comprenait Horace Silver, Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley et Doug Watkins.
Blakey, Morgan, and Mobley on their worst days sound better than 95% of jazz musicians on their best days. So although it might not be the greatest Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers album of all time, it's still well worth the price. My pressing was flawless - dead quiet vinyl, no scratches or warping, and the poly inner was a nice touch.
The name Jazz Messengers had been used by Art Blakey earlier, but when Horace Silver and Blakey began working together in the early 1950's the name had been dormant several years. The Jazz Messengers formed as a collective, nominally led by Silver or Blakey.
