Sainte Édith Stein, fille d’Israël, fut une philosophe engagée, et cet engagement philosophique se prolongea dans sa spiritualité après sa conversion et son entrée au Carmel. Ainsi, ses combats pour le féminisme lui inspirèrent une recherche spirituelle sur la vocation de la femme.

8 déc. 2022 · Nearly 200 worshippers commemorated the 80th anniversary of the death of Edith Stein at the Auschwitz Memorial on 9 August. They held a prayer march through the grounds of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz II-Birkenau, from the historic death gate to the monument to the victims located between the ruins of the crematoria and gas chambers.

Edith Stein was born into a Jewish family on 12 October 1891 in Breslau – the youngest of 11 children. Her father, Siegfried Stein, was a lumber merchant who died when she was only two years old, leaving her mother, Auguste Stein (née Courant), to take over the business and care for the children alone.
La béatification (1987) et la canonisation (1998) d’Edith Stein, philosophe et carmélite d’origine juive, morte déportée à Auschwitz, ont choqué de nombreux juifs comme une entreprise de l’Eglise pour remettre en cause la spécificité de la Shoah.
