Kinshasa ( /kin.ʃa.sa/ Écouter ; en lingala : Kisásá ), appelée Léopoldville (en néerlandais : Leopoldstad) de 1881 à 1966, est la capitale et la plus grande ville de la république démocratique du Congo (RDC) et l'une des plus peuplées d' Afrique ; elle s’étend sur 9 965 km2.
Par sa longueur de 4 700 km, le fleuve Congo est le huitième plus long fleuve du monde et deuxième après l' Amazone par son débit moyen de 50 000 m3 par seconde et l' étendue de son bassin de 3 700 000 km2. Il prend sa source à Lwalaba, sur le haut plateau du Katanga, et se jette dans l' océan Atlantique.
Presque enclavée, la république démocratique du Congo, avec ses 2 345 410 km2, est le deuxième plus grand pays d’ Afrique, après l' Algérie, et occupe la 11e place au monde.
