LOS ANGELES – On June 7, the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Dr. Amanuel Gebru as the next permanent President of Los Angeles City College (LACC) beginning August 1, 2023.
As president of LACC, P. Victor Peterson also became the acting president of the state college. In 1949, when Howard S. McDonald became president of both Los Angeles State College and Los Angeles City College, they were housed in borrowed spaces with part-time faculty.
Los Angeles City College (LACC) proudly commemorated the investiture of Dr. Amanuel Gebru on March 14, 2024, as the institution’s 18th president. This was a momentous event attended by over 400 distinguished guests, educational partners, and community leaders.

13 juin 2023 · Amanuel Gebru has been named the next president of Los Angeles City College. Gebru, currently the vice president of instruction at Moorpark College in Ventura County, will take over in his new role on Aug. 1.
