Shampoo is a comedy about a hairdresser and lothario in Beverly Hills on the eve of the 1968 election. Goldie Hawn plays one of his lovers, along with Julie Christie and Lee Grant, who won an Oscar for her role.
“I was not happy with Warren,” remembers Goldie Hawn. “He was so uncomfortable during the whole movie, he looked so troubled, always frowning—he was running the whole show.” Beatty’s need to be in control was particularly problematic for Ashby.
