Norman Earl Thagard dit Norm Thagard est un astronaute américain né le 3 juillet 1943. Il est sélectionné par la NASA en 1978 dans le corps des astronautes. Norman Earl Thagard (born July 3, 1943; Capt, USMC, Ret.), is an American scientist and former U.S. Marine Corps officer and naval aviator and NASA astronaut. He is the first American to ride to space on board a Russian vehicle, and can be considered the first American cosmonaut.

Norm Thagard s NASA-1 mission was all about learning. Thagard symbolized the fledgling Shuttle-Mir Program as he launched from Kazakhstan on a Soyuz rocket with his Commander Vladimir Dezhurov and Flight Engineer Gennady Strekalov.
8 juin 2024 · Vladimir Dezhurov commanded Mir-18, the three-man Mir mission that included the first American, NASA astronaut Norm Thagard. Dezhurov, Thagard, and Mir-18 flight engineer Gennady Strekalov launched to Mir aboard a Soyuz capsule; they returned to Earth on a Space Shuttle on STS-71.
Norman Thagard is currently a tenured professor of electrical engineering and dean of public relations at the FSU/FAMU College of Engineering. He also serves as the director of the Challenger Learning Center in Tallahassee, Florida, and is on the boards of various private corporations.
