Like his two immediate predecessors, al-Adid came to the throne as a child, and spent his reign as a puppet of various strongmen who occupied the vizierate. He was a mostly helpless bystander to the slow collapse of the Fatimid Caliphate.
Al-Adid [1], petit-fils d'Al-Hafiz, fut le 14 e et dernier calife fatimide ainsi que le 24 e et dernier Imam Hafizzi de 1160 à 1171. À la mort du calife en novembre 1171, Saladin annexa le territoire des Fatimides et régna en maître sur l'Égypte à la tête de la dynastie des Ayyoubides.
