Chris Austin Hadfield OC OOnt MSC CD (born August 29, 1959) is a Canadian retired astronaut, engineer, fighter pilot, musician, and writer. The first Canadian to perform extravehicular activity in outer space, he has flown two Space Shuttle missions and also served as commander of the International Space Station (ISS).
Hadfield flew as the first Canadian mission specialist, the first Canadian to operate the Canadarm in orbit, and the only Canadian to ever board Mir. In April 2001 Hadfield served as Mission Specialist 1 on STS -100 International Space Station ( ISS ) assembly Flight 6A.

After his flight, he became the spacecraft communicator (or CAPCOM) for mission STS-77, on which Marc Garneau flew as a mission specialist in May 1996.
