Chūichi Nagumo ( 南雲 忠一 ), né à Yonezawa dans la préfecture de Yamagata, le 25 mars 1887, et mort à Saipan, dans les îles Mariannes, le 6 juillet 1944, est une personnalité importante de la Marine impériale japonaise.
Chūichi Nagumo (南雲 忠一, Nagumo Chūichi, 25 March 1887 – 6 July 1944) was an admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II. Nagumo led Japan's main carrier battle group, the Kido Butai, in the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Indian Ocean raid and the Battle of Midway.
Nagumo, qui dirige la Flotte expéditionnaire chargée de détruire Pearl, est considéré comme bien trop circonspect. On lui reprochera son refus de lancer une 3ème vague d’assaut contre la base américaine de Pearl Harbor, au matin du 7 décembre 1941.

Chuichi Nagumo was a Japanese admiral who commanded the aircraft carrier force in the early stages of World War II. He led the raid on Pearl Harbor and the battles of Midway, Eastern Solomons, and Santa Cruz Islands.
Nagumo Chūichi, scored a stunning tactical victory over the U.S. Pacific Fleet at anchorage in Pearl Harbor. An unbroken string of naval victories followed this attack for six months, and Yamamoto’s prestige reached new heights by the late spring of 1942.
Japanese aircraft carriers under Admiral Chūichi Nagumo struck Allied shipping and naval bases around British Ceylon, but failed to locate and destroy the bulk of the British Eastern Fleet.
