Stanley William Turrentine (April 5, 1934 – September 12, 2000) [1] was an American jazz tenor saxophonist and record producer. He began his career playing R&B for Earl Bostic and later soul jazz recording for the Blue Note label from 1960, touching on jazz fusion during a stint on CTI in the 1970s. [2]

Known for his big, warm, sound, "The Sugar Man" or the original "Mr. T" found inspiration in the blues and turned it into a hugely successful career with a #1 hit and four Grammy nominations — first in R&B and then in jazz.
American jazz/soul-jazz saxophonist, and artist. Born: 5 April 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Died 11 September 2000 in New York City, New York, USA (aged 66). Married to jazz organist Shirley Scott.
