Eclipse at Dawn is a live album by South African pianist and composer Chris McGregor's big band Brotherhood of Breath. It was recorded on November 4, 1971, at the Berliner Jazztage in Berlin, and was released on CD by Cuneiform Records in 2008.
Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath is the debut album by South African pianist and composer Chris McGregor's big band of the same name. Produced by Joe Boyd , it was recorded in 1970, and was issued on LP by the short-lived Neon imprint of RCA Records in 1971 as the label's second release.
1 juin 2008 · Eclipse at Dawn. Cuneiform. 2008. Eclipse at Dawn is a prime concert recording of the Brotherhood of Breath, despite an oddly Feza- less line-up. Sure, one might miss his metallic skittering atop the ensemble, but it gives trumpeters Harry Beckett and Marc Charig a little more room to stretch out.
7 sept. 2008 · Cuneiform has single-handedly rescued the legacy of the BOB with, including Eclipse at Dawn, three live discs by the group from the '70s. McGregor, Pukwana and Moholo form the core of the group with fellow South African Harry Miller on bass.
Eclipse at Dawn our third release by the band captures the band at an early peak, performing in front of a huge, rapturous crowd at the Berliner Jazztage on November 4, 1971. Recorded by German radio, this is probably the best live recording of the Brotherhood in existence!
