11 févr. 2007 · While not as well known as Merle and Buck, Wynn Steward is one of the unsung heroes of the California country sound. Most of the tracks feature great fiddle and steel pedal playing. If you like driving, non-Nashville, real deal old-school honky-tonk, you will love this record. Great liner notes too.

Wynn Stewart "California Country: The Best Of The Challenge Masters" (AVI Records, 1995) Wow. It's hard to believe this CD -- on a reissue label that no longer exists -- was for years the only Wynn Stewart album in circulation.
When people think of California country music these days, they think of Buck, Merle, and Dwight instead of Tommy Collins, Skeets McDonald, or Wynn Stewart. With those thoughts in mind, maybe it's time to readdress the balance, and give a pioneer his due.
