Nels Courtney Cline (born January 4, 1956) is an American guitarist and composer. He has been a guitarist for the band Wilco since 2004. In the 1980s he played jazz, often in collaboration with his twin brother Alex, a percussionist.
Nels Cline Trio. In the late 80s, Nels Cline formed the Nels Cline Trio, which featured his guitar playing complemented by Mark London Sims (Dark) on bass and Michael Preussner at the drum set. The trio released several 7 inch records and one album, before replacing Sims with bassist Bob Mair (Submedia, Sleight of Hand).
The first Nels Cline Trio record on little brother was their third record as a group. Chest is an epic record that spans the emotions from menacing to tender to furiously aggro to other worldly.
On November 13, 2020, Nels Cline released his 3rd Blue Note album Share the Wealth, a dynamic double album featuring 10 swirling, evocative soundscapes including the epic first single “Beam/Spiral” and their explosive version of Caetano Veloso’s “Segunda”.

Originally released in December 1998, Sad is the fourth and final Nels Cline Trio album, and perhaps the most diverse. It begins with a three-minute-long guitar drone, followed by a drum solo, then a quiet improv, and a blistering coda.
