According to the Torah, Kehath (Hebrew: קְהָת, Qəhāṯ) or Kohath was the second of the sons of Levi and the patriarchal founder of the Kehathites, one of the four main divisions of the Levites in biblical times.
Kohath (Heb. קְהָת) and Kohathites. Kohath was the second son of Levi and grandfather of *Moses, *Aaron, and *Miriam (Num. 26:58–59). Few personal details about him are recorded. He is invariably listed between his brothers Gershon and Merari (Gen. 46:11; Ex. 6:16; Num. 3:17; I Chron. 5:27).

4 janv. 2022 · Kohath, Gershon, and Merari were the three sons of Levi and grandsons of Jacob (Genesis 46:11). Moses, Aaron, and Miriam were Kohathites (1 Chronicles 6:2–3). The Levites filled the priestly roles in Israel and bore the responsibility of caring for the tabernacle.
The second son of Levi ( Gen 46:11; Exod 6:16) who died at the age of 133 years ( Exod 6:18 ). Kohath, the son of Levi, was the father of Amram, Izher, Hebron and Uzziel ( Exod 6:18; Num 3:19, 27; 1 Chron 6:2 ), who became Kohathite branches of the Levitical families ( Num 3:27 ).
The Kohathites formed one of the three divisions of the tribe of Levi; the other two being the Gershonites and the Merarites ( Numbers 3:17 ). The Kohathites consisted of four families, the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites ( Numbers 3:19, 27, etc.).
