Sylvester Johnson (born Sylvester Thompson; July 1, 1936 – February 6, 2022) was an American blues and soul singer, musician, songwriter and record producer.
6 févr. 2022 · Fils d'un ouvrier agricole Sam Thompson, frère des bluesmen Jimmy Johnson et Mac Thompson, Syl nait dans une ferme du Mississippi. La famille déménage à Chicago en 1950. Syl joue d'abord pour son voisin Magic Sam puis pour Billy Boy Arnold, Junior Wells, Jimmy Reed, Shakey Jake et Howlin' Wolf.
En 1995, père et fille sortent un album de duos, This Time Together By Father And Daughter. En 1997, elle rencontre un assistant de Jive Records au cours d'un match caritatif de basket-ball et lui remet une démo. La maison de disques lui propose aussitôt un contrat d'enregistrement.
Il réactive même Twinight pour un album partagé avec sa fille Syleena, “This Time Together By Father And Daughter”, et publie un autre disque personnel sur le label Hep’Me de Senator Jones.

This album is 15 tracks of expertly-crafted foot-stompin soul tracks, just like they stepped out of the 70's. This hard-to-find gem is full of rich horn arrangements, Hammond B3 organ, and soulful singing by Syleena and Syl.
