The Well Below the Valley is the second album by the Irish folk group Planxty. It was recorded at Escape Studios in Kent, England, from 18 June 1973 until the end of the month, and was released later that year.

The musicians who featured on the album – Dónal Lunny, Andy Irvine and Liam O’Flynn – were all friends of Moore’s, and had performed with him at smaller venues in the previous few years. Christy Moore. Lunny was an old school friend who had taught Moore how to play the guitar and bodhrán.
