Johnny Shuggie Otis (born Johnny Alexander Veliotes Jr.; November 30, 1953) is an American singer-songwriter, recording artist, and multi-instrumentalist. Otis's composition "Strawberry Letter 23" as recorded by The Brothers Johnson topped the Billboard R&B chart and reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1977.
Shuggie Otis est un guitariste, chanteur, compositeur et producteur américain, notamment de rhythm and blues, né le 30 novembre 1953 à Los Angeles. Il est le fils du musicien, compositeur et chef d'orchestre américain Johnny Otis ( 1921 - 2012 ).
A 1969 set for Black & Blue, cut in France with pianist Jay McShann and tenor saxophonist Hal Singer, beautifully recounted Vinson's blues shouting heyday (it's available on Delmark as Old Kidney Stew Is Fine). A much later set for Muse teamed him with the sympathetic little big-band approach of Rhode Island-based Roomful of Blues.
